Resource Pack: Switched on to privacy
with the ICO
Keeping children safe online starts with conversation.
That's why we're supporting the ICO’s Switched on to privacy campaign. Created for parents and carers of children aged 4–11, the campaign offers practical advice, simple guidance and age-appropriate resources to help families talk about online privacy and make informed choices together.
As children begin to explore the digital world at younger ages, parents and carers play a vital role in helping them build the knowledge and confidence to navigate it safely. Regular, open discussions about privacy, sharing information online and what to do if something doesn't feel right can help children develop healthy digital habits that stay with them as they grow.
The Peerscroller videos below have been selected as part of this campaign for parents and carers to watch alongside children aged 4-11, supporting conversations at home.
Please note: Some of these videos mention social media. Most social media platforms require users to be aged 13 or over, and in June 2026 the UK Government announced plans to introduce a social media ban for under-16s. These videos are intended to help families prepare children for the digital world and encourage age-appropriate discussions about privacy and online safety, regardless of whether children are currently using these platforms.
What information is safe to share online? This video by Nate helps children understand the importance of protecting personal information, recognising privacy risks, and making thoughtful decisions about what they post, share, and keep private.
From likes and follows to photos and comments, social media platforms collect more information than many of us realise. This video by Robin explores what data is, how it can be used, and why it's important to think before sharing.
Please note: Most social media platforms require users to be aged 13 or over. This video is designed to help families discuss privacy and online safety, whether or not children currently use these platforms.
Not everyone online is who they say they are. This video introduces children to the concept of catfishing in an age-appropriate way, helping them recognise warning signs and know what to do if something doesn't feel right.
Receiving unwanted messages can be confusing and upsetting. This video encourages children to trust their instincts, understand that they don't have to engage with uncomfortable interactions, and identify trusted adults who can help.
