How are Oldham Sixth Form College using Peerscroller?
Oldham Sixth Form College became our first ever partner college to reach over 30% learner engagement with Peerscroller - achieving this within just two weeks of introducing the app.
So, what made the difference? According to Edward Pullin, Year 13 Progress Tutor, it came down to clarity, consistency, and embedding Peerscroller into the rhythm of college life from day one. Here’s how they did it…
Tips from Oldham Sixth Form College for Embedding Peerscroller
Deliver consistent messaging from the start
“We made sure the messaging was completely uniform... All students were given the same sign-up information, in the same week, using the same slides. Tutors even gave students time in lesson to download and explore the app.”
Rather than allowing information to trickle out unevenly, the college ensured every learner received exactly the same guidance at the same time. The rollout wasn’t left to interpretation or variation between tutors; it was coordinated and deliberate.
And by protecting time in lessons for sign-up and exploration, Edward ensured engagement began collectively.
Keep momentum with regular reminders
“We’ve been sharing collections at regular intervals to prompt students back to the app. Reminders also go out via Google Classroom, keeping Peerscroller within the flow of the platforms learners use daily.”
Initial sign-ups were only the first step. To prevent engagement dipping after launch, Oldham Sixth Form built reminders into existing communication channels.
The college worked within platforms students were already checking, making re-engagement seamless.
Make Peerscroller visible across campus
“We also have a slide on our screens around college, directing students to this pack… We plan to do this for themes throughout the year.”
The college didn’t rely solely on classroom promotion. They ensured Peerscroller remained part of the wider college environment through themed collections and on-screen displays around campus.
By linking themed collections to key moments in the academic year, the college keeps content timely and relevant.
Embed content into tutorials
“The scope for new content and tailored packs really helps us link Peerscroller with what we're already covering in tutorials.”
Crucially, Peerscroller wasn’t treated as an add-on. It was integrated into tutorials in a way that aligned with existing curriculum priorities. By connecting the platform directly to tutorial themes, OSFC ensured it enhanced, rather than competed with, planned provision.
