Resource Pack: Autism Awareness Day 2026

Autism Awareness Day 2026 is on 2nd April and is an opportunity to celebrate neurodiversity, raise understanding, and promote inclusion – recognising and valuing the experiences of autistic individuals in our schools and communities.

This resource pack brings together Peerscroller videos designed to build awareness and practical understanding. Covering how autism can affect communication, how to speak respectfully and supportively, and exploring topics such as pica, sensitivity to fabrics, and reactions to change, these videos offer clear explanations and real-life context.

Ever heard the word pica but not quite sure what it means? Sam explores what pica is, possible reasons behind pica, and how to support yourself or someone else experiencing pica. For further guidance, visit the National Autistic Society advice page or you can explore more research here.

Ever wondered how to make your conversations with someone with autism? Nate explains how Autism can affect communication, and why simple, direct language makes a huge difference. You’ll learn practical tips like: saying exactly what you mean, being specific about timeframes and speaking literally rather than figuratively, to avoid misunderstandings.

Change can be stressful, especially if you’re autistic. Sam shares tips for managing unexpected changes, including focusing on what you can control, planning your routines, using coping strategies like music, stimming, or comfort shows, and asking for support when you need it.

Some clothes can feel uncomfortable or even unbearable if you’re autistic. Bruno explains why fabrics can feel too scratchy, tight, or heavy, and shares practical tips like choosing soft materials, checking labels, trying out new clothes beforehand, or using weighted or tag-free options.
